The Terran returns, in long form

The Terran began as a YouTube channel with a simple premise: that the most consequential story of our time, the slow decline of Europe as a place of safety, prosperity and self-government, was being covered everywhere in fragments and almost nowhere in full.

Forty-five thousand subscribers later, we are relaunching around the format that built this outlet in the first place: the long-form essay. Ten minutes or more, one argument at a time, built on numbers, statutes and named decisions rather than outrage. The clips will continue, but the essays are the spine.

This website is the other half of the relaunch. Every essay now has a written edition here, on a domain we own, at an address no platform can take away. Alongside it sits Terran Weekly, our free newsletter, one email a week with the analysis that matters.

A note on how we publish. The Terran writes under a house byline. There is no personality to follow here and no face to put on a poster, by design. The argument stands or falls on its sources, and we prefer it that way.

What we cover has not changed: immigration and borders, the institutions of Europe and the people they answer to or fail to, Britain and Ireland, America where it bears on us, and the freedom to say any of this out loud. What we mourn has not changed either. Europe is declining, measurably, in energy, in housing, in confidence, and in the ability of its citizens to change course by voting. We do not think pointing this out is extreme. We think it is overdue.
